SUMMARY: The School Improvement Specialist (SIS) is assigned to the designated building and reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Curriculum & Student Services. The primary responsibilities include: Coach small groups of teachers and/or instructional facilitators in analyzing data and using data to differentiate instruction; keep abreast of all new development in areas of data analysis and disseminate current information to all teachers and administrators; provide ongoing professional development for teachers and administrators in the areas of data collection and analysis; facilitate meetings of instructional teams (PLCs); train and support teachers in the use of formative assessments; oversee intervention, remediation and tutorial activities at the school site; analyze national, state, and local assessment data as it relates to the school, to individual student achievement, and to the improvement of instruction; serve as a member of the school’s improvement team; serve as a liaison between the school administration and central office administration and the school administration and teachers, students and parents for areas identified as assigned responsibilities and essential functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
. Plans and coordinates school intervention, remediation, and tutorial programs/classes.
. Identifys students eligible for services and identifys appropriate remediation services.
. Maintains all necessary and appropriate records.
. Coordinates response to intervention program
. Reviews and tracks quarterly attendance and academic progress of students being served
in remediation, intervention and tutorial programs to determine progress and the need
for adjustments.
. Serves as the School Test Coordinator for all state assessment programs. Coordinates and implements
building-level testing procedures and protocols for national
and state testing, and for local testing as applicable.
. Conducts procedural training for all school test examiners and proctors.
. Counts, distributes, collects and packages testing materials. Maintains security of testing materials while
materials are in the building.
. Prepares all necessary orders for testing materials and oversees the distribution of test
results. Assists administrators in reporting testing irregularities.
. Assists with data collection and data record keeping associated with the School
Improvement Plans.
. Assists with analyzing national, state and local assessment data as it relates to the
school(s), to individual student achievement and to the improvement of instruction.
. Reviews assessment data with teachers, individually and with departments, grade levels,
or instructional teams to formulate plan for data driven instruction.
. Conducts parent, teacher, and student information sessions concerning testing,
remediation, and tutorial programs/classes.
. Attends, as necessary and appropriate, training sessions and site meetings related to
assigned responsibilities.
. Serves as a liaison between the school administration and central office administration and
the school administration and teachers, students and parents for areas identified as
assigned responsibilities and essential functions.
. Performs additional duties related to assigned responsibilities and essential function as
approved by the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Curriculum and Student Services or other duties
as assigned by the principal.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in Education Leadership or higher preferred. Valid Arkansas teaching license as an Administrator or Curriculum Specialist. Five (5) years of experience in school administration and/or supervision, education leadership and/or curriculum program administrator at the management level or central office level in culturally diverse environments. Cognitive coaching and meeting facilitation experience preferred. Mastery level knowledge of effective instructional strategies and practices. Ability to model effective instruction for whole class and small groups. Demonstrated data analysis required. Knowledge of how to evaluate and shape school cultures. Knowledge about district demographics and relevancy to education. Written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and problem solving skills. Knowledge about the science of school turnaround.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Strong knowledge of instructional classroom strategies, student academic assessment, remediation activities/strategies, and data use, analysis, interpretation and display; strong communication, organizational, and writing skills; ability to motivate, encourage, challenge students to participate in remediation, intervention, and/or tutorial programs; demonstrate initiative and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; leadership qualities to provide professional development; knowledge of the school improvement process.
