Position Title:  Teacher(s)--Gifted and Talented

Contract:          2018-2019 School Year (190 Days)

SUMMARY: The gifted and talented teacher is responsible for organizing, implementing and supporting modified instructional strategies to meet the needs of gifted students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs or selects appropriate instructional modifications for gifted students and coordinates these activities with other teachers as appropriate.
  • Provides whole group enrichment to kindergarten through second grades.
  • Develops and monitors the modified strategies for the students in coordination with other teachers as appropriate.
  • Serves on the District identification committee for gifted students.
  • Provides specialized instruction to individual and small groups of gifted students through a pull out program.
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal or gifted and talented coordinator.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of gifted students as required by Arkansas learning standards and curriculum frameworks for gifted students.
  • Plans for and utilizes instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques, which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and District policy.
  • Develops reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Provides parents with regular performance evaluations
  • Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree preferred; teacher with licensure code number of 289 or equivalent. Teachers with experience are valued; however, no prior experience is required.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of pre-employment background checks. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.
