Position Title:  Teacher(Secondary Science)/Cheer Coach (Grades 10-12)

Department:    Building Level     

Reports To:      Building Principal

Contract:          2020-2021 School Year (190 days)

SUMMARY: The teacher/coach is responsible for promoting the student/athlete philosophy both during the academic instruction of the classroom and total athletic program. The teacher/coach must demonstrate strong content knowledge in their academic teaching area as well as a climate of “respect” to ensure a strong academic environment. The candidate should demonstrate an attitude of preparation for the

classroom and field (court) to maximize the total student academic learning and their cheer ability. The teacher/coach must demonstrate leadership in student/cheer development of these attributes: sportsmanship, integrity and character. Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Adheres to the curriculum pacing guide in order to maximize student learning.
  • Plans for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques, which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and District policy.
  • Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of the sports programs a desire to perform at the highest level, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Works cooperatively with building administrators and Athletic Director.
  • Demonstrates, teaches and coaches cheers, dance and spirit routines for high school students.
  • Promotes safety in all cheers, dance, and spirit routines at practice and athletic events.
  • Ensures the concept of “Good Sportsmanship” is communicated to all JNPSD athletes and parents.
  • Establishes and enforces the physical, academic and training requirements of eligibility for participation; monitors class attendance and conduct of all athletes; coordinates required physical examinations for athletes.
  • Attends all athletic events in assigned sport and shows interest and support for other athletic and academic events.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of AAA rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/EXPERIENCE:   Bachelor’s degree with a license in the academic area to teach and a coaching endorsement and/or courses in the organization and administration of athletic programs. Teachers with experience are valued; however, no prior experience is required. Academic teaching area other than PE and Health is preferred

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of pre-employment background checks. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.
