Position Title:      Substitute School Bus Driver 2022-2023 School Year **$2,000 Signing Bonus

SUMMARY: A school bus driver has an extremely important job and responsibility. From the time the bus makes the first stop on the route until the last passenger disembarks, the safety of someone else’s child is in the driver’s hands. Safety is more important than keeping schedules or relationships with parents. It affects every aspect of a driver’s career.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:         

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency is preferred. School bus drivers are to have a class B CDL, a school bus endorsement, air brake endorsement and passenger endorsement. Applicants must pass a DOT physical, pre-employment drug and background check before being eligible for employment.

 

*SIGNING BONUS FOR Contracted and Non-Contracted Drivers:

 

A total bonus of $2000 will be paid over 1 year as follows:

$1,000 - end of the 1st semester

$1,000 - end of the school year 

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: The ability to deal with members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner including receiving complaints about schedules and levels and quality of service; the ability to deal with students; capable of responding in emergency situations.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of pre-employment background checks. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.

                                                                                          

PROBATIONARY STATUS: Any substitute or temporary classified personnel will have up to a 60-day “probationary” period. After the 60 days have expired, the employee will be notified of the District’s intentions regarding contracted
employment. If the substitute or temporary employee will not be recommended for hire, the building
principal/supervisor will notify the Superintendent of the reasons for the non-recommendation, and the
employee will be informed by the next board meeting of those reasons. The substitute or temporary
employee may be recommended for hire and offered a contract before working the entire 60 days if the
supervisor feels the position needs to be filled. The 60-day probation begins after a completed background check, Child Maltreatment Registry and non-contracted hire packet.

 

Note: All classified supervisory or administrative positions are excluded. These positions will continue to be filled by the Superintendent.
