Position Title:      Substitute Custodian 2022-2023 School Year

SUMMARY: The custodian is responsible for proper maintenance of the school or facility to ensure the exterior and interior environment is safe, secure, and aesthetically attractive. The custodian supports operations by performing cleaning duties, minor repairs and general maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma/GED preferred. Previous experience in custodial work and minor repair/maintenance.

PROBATIONARY STATUS: Any substitute or temporary classified personnel will have up to a 60-day “probationary” period. After the 60 days have expired, the employee will be notified of the District’s intentions regarding contracted
employment. If the substitute or temporary employee will not be recommended for hire, the building
principal/supervisor will notify the Superintendent of the reasons for the non-recommendation, and the
employee will be informed by the next board meeting of those reasons. The substitute or temporary
employee may be recommended for hire and offered a contract before working the entire 60 days if the
supervisor feels the position needs to be filled. The 60-day probation begins after a completed background check, Child Maltreatment Registry and non-contracted hire packet.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.  Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public. Student management is a huge responsibility that aides will have to address. Student management covers everything from positive interventions to preventing bullying, harassment and/or violence. This is a major part of being a school bus aide.
